The 37th Annual Joe Nuxhall Memorial Golf Outing Tees Off on June 20

FAIRFIELD, OH (May 11, 2022)—After a successful post-pandemic return, Joe Nuxhall’s “baby” and one of the longest running golf events in Butler County is back and better than ever.

The 37th Annual Joe Nuxhall Memorial Golf Outing will take place on Monday, June 20, 2022 at The Elks Golf Club in Hamilton, the home of the outing for all of its 37 years. Michelob Ultra/Ohio Eagle Distributing and Playground Equipment Services have joined forces as the title sponsors for the outing.

“This event is the one that was so special to Dad,” says Kim Nuxhall, volunteer President and Board Chairman of The Nuxhall Foundation. “Dad was a true golf addict, but it wasn’t just because of the game. He liked spending time on the course with his buddies, and he also loved giving back to the community that gave so much to him. Dad loved this outing because of what it accomplished. He would be so happy to see that the outing has continued and is doing so much good in his hometown.”

Funds raised from the outing support the Joe Nuxhall Memorial Scholarship, which provides $28,000 in scholarships to student athletes representing all fourteen Butler County high schools (public and private). The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Scholarship Fund administered through the Fairfield Community Foundation is the only one of its kind to ensure scholarships are awarded to every high school in the county. In its storied history, The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Scholarship Fund has distributed nearly $900,000 in scholarship money to help students in the local community achieve their educational dreams. Additional proceeds from the outing support The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields—a recreational facility in Fairfield for athletes with special needs.

“Dad knew how truly fortunate he was with all that was bestowed upon him, but in the back of his mind he always would have liked to have had a college education,” says Nuxhall. Joe Nuxhall started his broadcast career in Oxford on the campus of Miami University, and seeing students in college with so much potential inspired him.

“In essence, that triggered his desire to help others go to college and make that dream come true in their own lives, and the scholarship fund has been doing just that,” says Kim Nuxhall.

As has been the tradition since the outing’s inception in 1985, each participating foursome will be matched with a celebrity “bonus golfer” to round out their team. Celebrity golfers for past events have included hall of fame Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman, NFL hall of famer Anthony Muñoz, members of the Big Red Machine including arguably the greatest catcher of all time Johnny Bench, 1976 Olympic gold medalist archer Darrell Pace, and other local broadcasters and former athletes.

Ed Hartman returns for his second year as the chairperson of the Nuxhall Golf Outing, an outing that he says is tremendously important to the fabric of the Greater Cincinnati community.

“Joe’s fingerprints are all over this outing, the scholarship, and every single project carried forward by The Nuxhall Foundation,” says Hartman. “Whenever I work on this outing, I can feel Joe’s arms around us giving us a big hug and pushing us forward. That’s who he was in this life, and that’s the kind of power his legacy has inspired. Helping to lead this tradition into future generations is a true blessing. Last year’s outing was a real success thanks to a record number of foursomes and sponsorships, and we are ready to ensuring this year’s event builds on that success.”

In addition to the Joe Nuxhall Memorial Scholarship Fund, a central foundation project is The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields—an entirely accessible baseball and recreational facility where every player with every challenge gets every chance to play. More than 200 players between ages 4 to 78 participate in programs at the Miracle League Fields. The Nuxhall Foundation is also home to The Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund, underwriting and delivering character education programming throughout the local community.
