FAIRFIELD, OH (January 31, 2024)—Home run trots, high fives, hot dogs, and hugs. They’re all coming back this spring with the return of Therapeutic Recreation for the Disabled’s (TRD) adult league softball season.
Registration for the 2024 spring/summer season is now available.
“Steve Smith and our partners at Therapeutic Recreation for the Disabled are true visionaries in the world of accessible and inclusive recreation,” says Kim Nuxhall, president and board chairman of The Nuxhall Foundation. “They have built an adult softball league at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields that all of Cincinnati is proud of. From the start, they’ve been with us making miracles happen. We absolutely love their character-driven leadership and passion for our all-stars.”
TRD adult league all-stars and Great Miami Valley YMCA youth league athletes will kick off the season in style with Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields Opening Day Parade on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:00am. The parade begins at Sacred Heart Church in Fairfield and makes its way to the Nuxhall Miracle League Fields, where players will be introduced in an on-field ceremony.
The Therapeutic Recreation for the Disabled (TRD) Adult Softball League plays on Friday evenings at 6pm and 7:30pm throughout a ten-week season and two-week postseason tourney. The league will host four weeks of practice beginning on Friday, April 5th, with league play set to commence on Friday, May 3rd. Play will run through the postseason championship on Friday, July 26th, with an end of season picnic scheduled for Sunday, July 28th.
Steve Smith, TRD league commissioner and a board member with the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields, has been impressed by the tremendous growth and adaptability of the league.
“Last year, we set a record with 135 athletes,” says Smith. “It’s a testament to the fact that we are thinking outside the box to promote inclusion in America’s pastime. Each and every Friday evening throughout the summer, our volunteers, coaches, and especially are athletes are proving that baseball and softball are games that are accessible for everyone.”
Leagues at The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields are managed and operated by partner organizations and a committed group of volunteers. Since the opening of The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields in 2012, the Great Miami Valley YMCA and Therapeutic Recreation for the Disabled have served as the providing partners for the youth and adult leagues respectively.
