Going to Play Baseball at
The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields
(Youth League)

On Saturday morning, I am going to play baseball at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields in Fairfield!

I will ride up with my family or group to the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields. We will park in the lot next to the fields, where plenty of accessible parking spaces are available.

I can invite all my family and friends to come watch me play, too!
I will wear my team uniform and hat to the game. I will bring my own baseball glove from home, but bats and foam baseballs will be available for me to use at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields.

The Nuxhall Miracle League Fields have the BEST mascot: Joey The Can-Do Kangaroo!

I can say hello to Joey and maybe get my picture taken too!
There are large ramps to help me get from the field level to the concourse, where the concession stand and restrooms are located.

The bathrooms at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields have automatic doors, hand flush/automatic toilets, and blow dryers. There is a family restroom available if I need additional help. There is a changing table available for both children and adults.

The concession stand has drinks and food like hot dogs, popcorn, candy, and chips. The concession stand only accepts cash, so I will pay with bills or coins. My group will decide if we will buy snacks at the game.

It might be loud and crowded. If it is too loud, I can cover my ears or wear headphones.
Everyone is so proud of me when I follow the rules of the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields:
-
Every player bats once per inning.
-
All players are safe on the bases.
-
Every player scores a run before the inning is over.
-
Each team and player wins every game.

When it is time for my game to start, I will go to my field with my team. I can either wait in the dugout, or I can practice my batting and fielding before the game begins.
Before the game starts, we listen to the National Anthem. Everyone who is able will stand, face the American flag, and put their hands over their hearts to listen to the National Anthem. The baseball game will start after the National Anthem.

When it is time to play, the announcer will say "Play Ball!"
I will have a "Buddy" with me when I am in the field and up to bat. I can choose to have a Buddy assigned to me, or I can have an adult member of my family serve as my Buddy. I will be a good listener when my Buddy is trying to help me.

When I am playing in the field, I will wear a baseball glove.
Everyone will get a turn to bat. The Visitors team will bat first, and then the Home team will bat. I will be patient waiting my turn to bat. I will hang out with my teammates in the dugout while I wait.

An announcer will announce my name when it is my turn to bat. Announcers tell the crowd what is happening and help everyone get excited about the game.
When I am up to bat, I will swing and hit a baseball. I can choose to have someone pitch the ball to me, or I can hit off of a tee. If I need extra help swinging, my buddy will be there to assist me.

To make sure we are safe, the bat is made of plastic, and the baseballs are made of a lightweight foam.

If I need additional help swinging the bat, batting machines are available for me to use. My Buddy will place the ball on the tee. I will press a big red button to swing the bat.
When I hit the baseball, I will go to first base! My Buddy will run to first base with me.

When my teammate hits the baseball, I will go to the next base until I get to home plate!

When I get to home plate, the announcer and volunteers will celebrate with me by throwing our hats in the air and cheering! There may also be some surprise bubbles too!
If I need to take a break during the game, I can ask my buddy or a volunteer to take a break. I can rest in the dugout, go to a quieter place, get a drink or snack, or go to the bathroom.

The crowd loves to cheer for me and my fellow all-stars. I can cheer on my teammates if I want! If it is too loud, I can cover my ears or wear headphones.
When the game is over, I will say "good game" to all my teammates and my opponents as we greet each other at home plate. I will then make my way up the ramp by my field, where the crowd will be there to cheer for me as I go through the tunnel that they make with their hands.

I can't wait to come back to the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields next Saturday!

Baseball is so much fun!
