FAIRFIELD, OH (November 8, 2021)—COVID Still Can’t, the virtual awareness and fundraising campaign supporting The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields, launched today with an impressive leadoff home run.
The Nuxhall Foundation announced that The Hatton Foundation, managed by Walt Lunsford of 9258 Wealth Management, has offered a $25,000 matching donation to start the campaign off in a winning direction. The first $25,000 donated by supporters of the organization will be matched by this gift.
“Walt Lunsford and The Hatton Foundation have been instrumental partners in the work we do at The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields, said Kim Nuxhall, volunteer president and CEO of The Nuxhall Foundation. “From the start, Walt and Hatton have believed in our mission to serve children and families with special needs. Seeing them step up to the plate again for our next big dream is beyond encouraging.”
During the COVID Still Can’t campaign, The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields will feature videos and other messages on their Facebook and social media platforms to raise awareness for the special needs athletes and families who find purpose at the facility. Supporters will be encouraged to share those videos and to give online at www.NuxhallMiracleLeague.org/donate.
A major portion of the funds raised from this year’s campaign will be dedicated towards construction of The Hope Center: a 28,000 square foot indoor facility for special needs athletes. This one-of-a-kind facility will be home to the Butler County Special Olympics and will feature a basketball arena, adaptable fitness and multipurpose facility, miniature bowling alleys, and other unique amenities designed specifically for athletes with special needs. Remaining funds will be used to fund ongoing operations at the current facility.
Supporters of The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields will readily recognize The Hatton Foundation. In 2011, The Hatton Foundation gifted a half-million dollar matching donation to help build The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields. Hatton Park, the home of The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields, is appropriately named after the Foundation for their integral gift.
“Our goal to become the world’s most comprehensive campus for athletes with special needs is well within reach because of the unparalleled generosity of The Hatton Foundation and Walt Lunsford,” said Nuxhall Foundation executive director Tyler Bradshaw. “We have big dreams that are entirely within reach, and it’s unbelievably heartwarming to see The Hatton Foundation breathe life into this next miracle.”
Supporters can make donations through November 30 to help meet the matching gift goal.
The Nuxhall Foundation is the legacy foundation for former Major League Baseball pitcher and longtime Cincinnati Reds broadcaster, Joe Nuxhall. A central foundation project is The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields—an entirely accessible baseball and recreational facility where every player with every challenge gets every chance to play. More than 200 players between ages 4 to 77 participate in programming at the Miracle League Fields.
