FAIRFIELD, OH (July 18, 2024)—A fan-favorite tradition at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields is coming your way, with a star-studded lineup!
The Nuxy Bash presented by Ameritas returns to the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 7:00pm. The event, which includes a celebrity softball game and Rozzi fireworks show, celebrates The Ole Lefthander with an evening of fun and community on what would have been Joe Nuxhall’s 96th birthday.
“We look forward to the Nuxy Bash every year because it’s the type of event my Dad would have loved,” says Kim Nuxhall, President and Board Chairman of The Nuxhall Foundation. “The event brings together our special needs all-stars with the local celebrities who are so supportive of our mission for a night of fun, togetherness, and good will, and we love welcoming our entire community to join in the excitement.”
This year’s Nuxy Bash will feature the traditional celebrity softball game, combining celebrity friends of the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields on teams with players from the Great Miami Valley YMCA Youth League and the Therapeutic Recreation for the Disabled Adult League. Celebrities in this year’s event include: Local 12’s Sheila Gray, Bob Herzog, Aleah Hordges, Jen Dalton, and John Gumm, WCPO meteorologist Cameron Hardin, WLWT’s Kelly Rippin, 700 WLW’s Bill “Seg” Dennison, former Cincinnati Reds NL Rookie of the Year Scott Williamson, former University of Cincinnati and NFL quarterback and ESPN 1530 personality Tony Pike, director of the Reds Community Fund Charley Frank, 2022 Nuxhall Humanitarian Award recipient Teddy Kremer, Michael Pitman of the Journal-News, and local commercial superstar Ed Hartman.

After the celebrity softball game, the evening will conclude with a spectacular nighttime display from the award-winning artists at Rozzi Fireworks. The fireworks display is set to take place at approximately 9:30pm.
In celebration of what would have been Joe’s 96th birthday, the first 96 fans in attendance at this year’s Nuxy Bash will be able to choose a free Nuxhall Foundation giveaway item while supplies last.
Continuing their tradition of amazing generosity, Ameritas returns as the presenting sponsor for the Nuxy Bash. Ameritas provides insurance and financial products and services to individuals, families and businesses, while living out their corporate values through this sponsorship.
“It thrills us to partner with the Nuxhall Foundation for the Nuxy Bash another year,” said Dave Voelker, Ameritas senior vice president, individual operations. “The league provides an inclusive, welcoming community and atmosphere that gives equal opportunity to those who want to enjoy the special game of baseball.”
Absent from this year’s event is Cincinnati broadcasting legend John Lomax, who sadly passed away in March of this year. Lomax always served as the commissioner of the Nuxy Bash, cheering on his celebrity friends and all-stars, while always taking photos that captured the excitement of the event.
“John Lomax was a champion of character,” says Nuxhall. “He was the type of man who loved life, loved people, and appreciated every moment. At every turn, John was there to support our mission and tell our story with the optimism and positivity that he was famous for, and we miss him dearly—at this event, and in every moment.”
The Nuxhall Foundation will honor Lomax with a moment of silence during the pre-game ceremony, along with other tributes throughout the evening.
Admission to the event is free, and no tickets are required. Concessions will be available for cash purchases, along with ice cream available from Special Neat Treats—an ice cream truck owned and operated by Joel Wegener and his children, Mary Kate and Josh, who have Down syndrome. The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Field’s mascot, Joey the Can-Do Kangaroo, will also be in attendance, and copies of the Foundation’s children’s book about Joey will be available for purchase.

The Nuxhall Foundation is the legacy foundation for former Major League Baseball pitcher and longtime Cincinnati Reds broadcaster, the late Joe Nuxhall. The Nuxhall Foundation carries forward three important legacy projects. A central project of The Nuxhall Foundation is The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields—an entirely accessible baseball and recreational facility where every player with every challenge gets every chance to play. Historically, nearly 300 athletes with physical and developmental disabilities aged 4 to 80 participate in programs at the Miracle League Fields. The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Scholarship (in conjunction with the Fairfield Community Foundation) provides nearly $30,000 per year in scholarship money to student athletes at all 14 Butler County high schools. Very soon, the Joe Nuxhall Memorial Scholarship will cross the million-dollar mark in scholarship money awarded. The Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund pitches good character to young leaders throughout Greater Cincinnati by delivering and supporting programs that stress the importance of integrity, humility, respect, and kindness. In 2024, The Nuxhall Foundation will launch a $12 million capital campaign to construct The Hope Center, a year-round recreational facility for athletes with special needs that will help to create the world's most comprehensive athletic campus for individuals with disabilities.
